Royal Photographic Society - The 40% Project

I am delighted to be taking part in the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) 40% Project This is an initiative that aims to celebrate the achievements and representation of women in UK politics. The project aims to create a powerful portrait series of the 40% of Members of Parliament who are women, capturing their individuality, strength, and the diverse paths that brought them into public service.

I had the pleasure of photographing Victoria Collins MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted in the heart of her constituency over Easter weekend. Everything seemed to fall into place perfectly, timing, weather, even impromptu lobbying from a constituent, never a moment off! Victoria was a joy to work with, and the photo shoot was relaxed, enjoyable (I hope!) resulting in images that show the authentic, professional MP. Thank you to Victoria, and Viv in her Parliamentary office for making this shoot happen.

Through photography, we honour their contributions and highlight the importance of gender representation in government. This nationwide project will culminate in a compelling visual archive, fostering dialogue around equality, leadership, and visibility. The final body of work will be exhibited and published, amplifying the voices of women shaping the future of the UK.
